What to visit

  • Historical centre

The historic center or center, formed by the neighborhoods of Gancho, Magdalena and San Miguel, is the second largest in Spain. In the historic center are the main monuments of the city, such as the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar.

  • Basílica del Pilar

The Basilica del Pilar is the only Christian building in the world that contains Taoist symbology, a Chinese branch of religion and philosophy related to yin and yang. You can see this symbol on the eight central domes of the building. It is located just 5 minutes walk from the Catalonia El Pilar hotel.

  • La Seo Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Savior on his Epiphany began to be built in Romanesque style in the 12th century on an old mosque. It was not until the 17th century when the baroque spire that crowns its tower and the four statues representing the cardinal virtues were placed.

The capital of the Ebro surprises by preserving a great historical legacy from different eras. Start your day with energy by having breakfast either at the all-you-can-eat buffet at our Catalonia El Pilar hotel, or at one of the most legendary establishments in the city, the Café Levante, which dates back to 1895 and still maintains the essence of the past.

Zaragoza has such a rich legacy that exploring the city to get to know it requires time and a good tourist plan. At Catalonia we have created a selection of some of the most important points of interest, so that you don't miss any details.

Start at the 1st-century Caesaraugusta Theater and Forum Museum, with stunning Roman ruins. Continue your route through the Aljafería Palace, a symbol of the time of greatest splendor of the Taifa kingdom in the city. Did you know that the Mudejar art of Aragon is a World Heritage Site?

Walk to the banks of the Ebro, where the largest and most accurate sundial in the world is located. From there, walk to Plaza del Pilar, located a few meters from our hotel in Zaragoza. There you will find the Cathedral of San Salvador, also known as La Seo, dating from the 12th century. Both inside and outside, the Romanesque, Mudejar, Baroque and Neoclassical influences are notable. La Lonja de Mercaderes is one of the main examples of Aragonese Renaissance in Zaragoza.

The jewel in the crown in the city of Zaragoza is, without a doubt, the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar. On the outside you can see clear Renaissance influences. Don't leave the Basilica without admiring its Renaissance choir, or the paintings by Goya and Bayeu in the domes. Near the Plaza del Pilar is the Patio de la Infanta, with an essential series of oil paintings by Goya.

In the afternoon you can take a relaxing walk to the other side of the Ebro River, where the 2008 Universal Exhibition facilities are located, and then have tapas on the popular El Tubo street. Taste migas, stew, Zaragozan-style rice or roast lamb ternasco. For dessert, we recommend cobblestones or maraschino cherries, the perfect sweet touch to end your visit.
