The capital of the Costa del Sol has a lot to offer visitors and at the Catalonia Málaga you will find everything ready for your arrival. In addition to famous beaches such as La Malagueta, the city offers traces of its historical past from its Phoenician origins in eighth century BC. Some of the essential visits are the Alcazaba, a fortification from the Muslim period, Malaga cathedral, known as “la manquita” for the second tower that was never built, and the Roman Theatre, commissioned by Emperor Augustus and which preserves the original stands.
For art lovers, Malaga is home to a large number of museums, the most famous of which is the Museo Picasso, not to be missed in the city of the painter's birth and where you can see more than 200 works. Neither should you skip the Museo Carmen Thyssen, with a vast collection of Spanish paintings from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, or the Pompidou Centre, with its striking building in the shape of a coloured glass cube. After the cultural visits, a stroll through the always-lively calle Larios is the perfect end to the day.
